May 16, 2023 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CARBONDALE, CO – On June 7th, in Sopris Park, Wilderness Workshop will be hosting its annual Community Party. This year’s party will commemorate the community-driven victory of securing 20 years of protection for the Thompson Divide. The event is free and open to the public.

The event will start off with a celebratory “Cattle Drive” parade down Main Street, beginning at the Village Smithy and ending in Sopris Park. Cow costumes are encouraged by all! Wilderness Workshop will also be announcing this year’s recipients of their Community Advocate Award. The award this year acknowledges a few community members for their outstanding engagement and activism on the Thompson Divide. An additional element to this year’s event will be the premiere of a short film honoring the Thompson Divide Withdrawal effort (read a Sopris Sun and/or an APR story on the topic).

“Achieving 20 years of protection for the Thompson Divide wouldn’t have been possible without the passion and dedication of our incredible community!,” said Will Roush, Executive Director of Wilderness Workshop. “The Community Party is our chance to acknowledge this and say thank you to each and every one of you who speaks up, shows up to our events, takes action and so much more to help us protect special places like the Thompson Divide.”

The evening will include performances by the Roaring Fork Youth Orchestra Sidewalk Strings and Blue River Grass. The party will also include:
