Wilderness Workshop is monitoring details surrounding the GAME Act, a proposed land-exchange bill that would transfer approximately 2,158 acres of public Bureau of Land Management land near Consolidated Reservoir outside Glenwood Springs into private ownership associated with Out of Bounds Ranch. In exchange, the bill would transfer roughly 2,100 of private acreage near the communities of Rifle and Meeker into public hands.
Statement from Michael Gorman, Campaign Director
Public lands belong to the American people. They should be managed for our shared benefit, not handed over to the ultra-wealthy for private use. We are extremely concerned that the GAME Act proponents are misleading the public about the supposed public benefits of the proposed legislation. As Colorado Parks and Wildlife has pointed out, the swap would not actually provide new access to any “landlocked” public lands that were previously inaccessible. Based on the lack of transparency and the broad community opposition to the swap, we think the GAME Act is a bad deal for western Colorado.
