“She had that spirit, the wild spirit. She loved being out in the backcountry and doing things that she couldn’t do anywhere else. Mary was a fantastic human being. Her spirit just glowed around her.”—Sven Coomer, husband of Mary

On August 22nd, the Roaring Fork community mourned the passing of Mary Dominick-Coomer. Mary was a patron of the arts, outdoorswoman, and a dedicated conservationist. Mary served on our Board for 27 years. The work we do, the community we build, the lands we protect – we couldn’t have done it without Mary. We were in awe of her and constantly buoyed by her life force and vitality. She was a fierce advocate and deeply committed to our mission of protecting the public lands of western Colorado. Mary was instrumental in transforming the scrappy, all-volunteer organization founded by Joy, Dottie and Connie into what we are today. As so many WW board members and staff have testified, working with Mary was a privilege.
