Target: The U.S. Bureau of Land Management
Action: Submit comments to stop oil and gas drilling on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge’s coastal plain.
December 22, 2018 was the one-year anniversary of the GOP tax bill, which among its many harmful provisions, mandated oil and gas development in the pristine Arctic National Wildlife Refuge — jeopardizing pristine public lands, the Gwich’in people, and our climate. The provision to allow oil and gas development in the Arctic Refuge was jammed into the bill, despite the long history of bipartisan opposition to drilling there.
Protecting this special place has been a decades-long rallying cry for Americans concerned with preserving our nation’s shared natural heritage and biodiversity. Despite the Arctic Refuge’s overwhelming support from the American people, it’s coastal plain is now on the fast-track for oil and gas drilling and industrialization.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has released a draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in preparation for holding an oil and gas lease sale later this year. The comment period for the EIS ends on February 11. Please submit your comments TODAY and tell the BLM not to allow drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
