Cathedral Lake Trail (near Aspen)
Saturday, September 7
8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Registration is required for this event.
Project Description: Help us repair and improve heavily impacted and eroded sections of the first 1/2 mile past the trailhead, installing new drainage features, improving tread, and narrowing the trail in spots.
Why restore this alpine trail: Alpine environments are especially sensitive to human use. In areas with high amounts of people (ex: Cathedral Lake) it’s important to ensure that use is well managed and concentrated on a trail. This project will ensure damage to the fragile alpine ecosystem is minimal and people continue to enjoy this spectacular mountain hike.
Directions: Drive 1/2 mile west of Aspen on Highway 82.; at the roundabout, turn onto Castle Creek Road, drive 12.2. miles up Castle Creek and turn right (shortly after passing Ashcroft) onto a gravel road, driving a 1/2 mile to the trailhead.
Food: Wilderness Workshop will provide a light breakfast and lunch.
What to bring: warm clothing and rain gear (contingent on weather), closed toed shoes, sun protection and water bottles; please bring work gloves if you have them.
Wilderness Workshop is partnering on this project with Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers (RFOV).
