Response comes after ‘proposed action’ purports to ratify existing leases
The Bureau of Land Management must cancel the 25 oil and gas leases located in the Thompson Divide that fall within Pitkin County’s boundaries, county commissioners are telling the federal agency.
On Tuesday, assistant county attorney Chris Seldin discussed a letter that has been prepared for the BLM, and which will be issued to other agencies including the Department of the Interior.
The letter comes in response to a preliminary draft environmental impact statement about Thompson Divide that’s been shared with local governments and agencies, but not the public at large.
In the county letter, it’s suggested the BLM is leaning toward an alternative that “would essentially ratify the existing leases with only minor changes.
