On Friday, June 1, the House Committee on Natural Resources will convene a Field Hearing in Grand Junction, titled “Examining Natural Gas and Oil Shale Opportunities in Western Colorado.” Hosting the hearing are Reps. Scott Tipton and Doug Lamborn of CO’s 3rd and 5th districts, along with Rep. Rob Bishop of Utah—arguably the most strident fossil fuel promoter and public lands opponent in Congress today.
It’s clear that Bishop and company are simply using this hearing to give a bullhorn to the fossil fuel interests that keep them in Washington. WW and several other local conservation organizations are encouraging concerned citizens to attend a press conference on CMU’s campus, to provide an alternative perspective, highlighting the ecological and climate impacts of oil and gas, which the Committee is intent on ignoring.
Please attend the people’s press conference on Friday, June 1, at 3pm at Colorado Mesa University at the Elm Quad, directly outside of the University Center through the north entrance (1455 N 12th St., Grand Junction). You are also encouraged to attend the House Committee on Natural Resources hearing at 2pm, which will take place in the University Center, Room 213.
