Crystal River Valley Field Trip

Sunday, June 27
5:20p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Free and open to the public, registration required.

Caravan with Wilderness Workshop and explore the Crystal River Valley. With a focus on the corridor from Red Wind Point to McClure Pass, this field trip will offer insight into Wilderness Workshop’s conservation efforts in the Crystal Valley, including an effort to designate the Crystal River as Wild and Scenic and our wildlife studies that are helping to determine the best alignment for the Carbondale to Crested Butte Trail. This sensitive area is diverse in its plant and animal species, and represents a crucial migration corridor and calving ground for a number of ungulates like deer, elk, and bighorn sheep.

Participants can expect to stop at two sites throughout the day, and walk a total of 5 miles, split between the two locations.

This is a caravan -style outing with a couple of short but challenging walks along the way.

  • No dogs are allowed.
  • This adult program is appropriate for those 16 years and older who are strong hikers. Minors must be accompanied by a parent.
  • Bring appropriate day hike equipment including water, snacks, and lunch. Suggested Day Hike Gear List
  • Participants should carry their own personal first aid kit.

This free hike is sponsored by Alpine Bank, The Thrift Shop of Aspen, City of Aspen, The Aspen Times, and True Nature Healing Arts.
