BIG NEWS! The Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy Act (CORE Act) will have a Senate hearing next Wednesday, Nov. 18! After passing the U.S. House twice over the past year, the CORE Act is closer than ever to becoming law. Now, we have a chance to get the CORE Act through Congress this year by including it on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) when the House and Senate reconcile the two versions of the NDAA in the next few weeks.
Please call Senator Bennet and Representative Neguse to thank them for moving the CORE Act forward in the Senate, and let them know there’s strong support for passing the CORE Act this year.
The CORE Act would protect four spectacular wild places in Colorado, each of which has been a part of individual legislative proposals in the past. It will expand Wilderness in the White River and San Juan National Forests, permanently close the Thompson Divide to new oil and gas leasing, honor veterans and founding-members of the modern ski industry by establishing the nation’s first National Historic Landscape at Camp Hale, and enhance fishing and recreation opportunities in the Curecanti National Recreation Area near Gunnison.
Wilderness Workshop has worked closely with you, our community, for over a decade to permanently protect the Thompson Divide, as well as the Continental Divide and Camp Hale. We are grateful to Senator Bennet and Representative Neguse for being relentless champions of this important piece of legislation. Permanent protections take time, and we have never been so close to victory! Thank you for all you have done to help us get to this critical moment.
Today, we need your help to make a push for the CORE Act to be included in the NDAA this year. Please participate in the statewide Day of Action by taking a minute to call our elected officials and lending your support for passing the CORE Act through the NDAA.
