Buck Berlaimont Evening Field Trip
Fri. May 31, 2019
4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Free and open to the public, registration required.
Join Wilderness Workshop and local concerned citizens on a short field trip and hike to the proposed Berlaimont development high above Edwards. This controversial real estate development is under final consideration by the Forest Service. Come see the area in question, travel to the site by 4-wheel-drive vehicle and on foot; learn from experts about the conflicts and issues. Berlaimont would significantly impact some of the last critical winter habitat for deer and elk in the mid-valley area north of I-70. With deer and elk herds in steep decline, many citizens are opposed to the Forest Service approving a 5-mile-long paved road through this prime habitat. See and learn for yourself so you can be a powerful voice in the community.
We’ll gather at the parking area across from Shaw Cancer Center and carpool from there. 4 X 4 vehicles needed. If you have one and are willing to drive, please contact hike leader Susie Kincade directly, 970-328-5472.
Distance: approx. 4 miles via vehicle; less than 1 mile of hiking on a dirt road.
This free hike is sponsored by Alpine Bank, The Thrift Shop of Aspen, City of Aspen, The Aspen Times, and True Nature Healing Arts.
