Target: Public land managers at the Forest Service

Action: Attend a US Forest Service Open House in Minturn Wednesday, August 15 to hear about important changes to the proposed Berlaimont Estates access road. Address: Holy Cross Ranger Station, 24747 U.S. Highway 24 in Minturn.

The Forest Service is hosting an informational meeting about the proposed Berlaimont Estates access road this Wed., Aug. 15, 5 – 7pm, at the Holy Cross Ranger Station. Please attend the meeting and push the USFS to actively protect important winter wildlife habitat in the area.

The purpose of the meeting is to introduce new changes to the proposed Berlaimont Estates access road. These changes include a new trailhead for snowmobile use near the Wildridge subdivision and additional trails in the Berry Creek area.

It is clear that the proposed changes may benefit recreationists, but it appears that more trails and new trailheads will only serve to add more people and user demands to this important habitat. That choice is one we’ve made far too many times before, and as a result, wildlife always loses.

We expect a Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Berlaimont Estates access road to be released sometime later this year, and we urge you to continue participating in this important decision-making process.
