Crystal River Valley Field Trip
Saturday, July 14
9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Free and open to the public, registration required.

Caravan with Wilderness Workshop and explore the Crystal River Valley. With a focus on the corridor from Red Wind point to McClure Pass, this field trip will focus on Wilderness Workshop’s conservation efforts in the area including an effort to designate the Crystal River as Wild and Scenic and our wildlife studies that are helping to determine the best alignment for the Carbondale to Crested Butte Trail. This sensitive area is diverse in its plant and animal species, and a crucial migration corridor and calving ground for a number of ungulates like deer, elk, and bighorn sheep.

Participants can expect to stop at 4-5 sites throughout the day, and walk a total of 5 miles, split between the various locations.

This is a caravan style outing with a couple of short, but potentially challenging walks along the way.

  • No dogs are allowed.
  • This adult program is appropriate for those 16 years and older who are strong hikers. Minors must be accompanied by a parent.
